FAQs
Who qualifies to submit a proposal?
We welcome proposals from UIC and ANL researchers who hold Principal Investigator status at one of the two institutions. As stated in the call for proposals, we envision this funding to nucleate programs that can grow in the long run and attract follow-on external resources. PI status is indispensable for this goal.
Is there a limit to the number of proposals per person?
Regardless of role in the proposal, there is a limit of one submission per person. This is stated in theĀ application portal.
Can the proposal have more than 1 PI at each institution?
Yes, the language of the call states that there must be at least 1 PI at each institution. This means we are open to more coPIs. However, we also consider it advisable to keep teams nimble and focused to be effective, in view of the resources that we are making available. Small teams of 1+1 PI are more likely to succeed in making the case of impact.
How should we account for the budget of $150k?
We are not looking for a detailed breakdown that properly accounts for institutional overhead. The call explicitly lists what we would like to see: an estimate of what you plan to spend your money on. Details about overheads will be worked out with the awardees directly. All ANL funding will be subject to LDRD overheads.
What is the deadline for proposals?
March 9th, 2026.
