Undergraduates
Introduction
Undergraduate students have the opportunity to participate in Argonne National Laboratory programs that immerse them in cutting-edge research and discovery in all areas of the lab, helping them grow their skills and areas of interest. Over 100 students each year participate in the various internship opportunities Argonne offers. Argonne also hires undergraduate students for part-time and temporary assignments to provide technical support to scientists and engineers.
Undergraduate Student Opportunities
Internships
Argonne’s seasonal research experience programs pairs STEM students with a research staff member to work on a research project that supports the Department of Energy (DOE) and Argonne’s mission. Internship sessions are available throughout the year: Summer (10 weeks), Fall (16 weeks) and Spring (16 weeks). Participants are paid via stipend and may be eligible for on-site housing.
Temporary Employment
Argonne’s student employment programs offer temporary positions in both research and operations (non-research) areas. These opportunities range from long-term to short-term, part-time to full-time. Interested applicants should submit their applications to the relevant applicant pool for consideration.
Visiting Student Program
The Visiting Student Program allows students with funding from their university or another institution to conduct research at Argonne. This program is designed to enhance students’ academic experience by providing access to Argonne’s state-of-the-art resources and collaborative research environment.
